About Us

meet the team

COUNTER HERE

We are members of the Brazos Amateur Radio Club (bvarc.org) in Houston, TX and actively promote ham radio in various ways. Between the two of us we have been involved in Museum Ships Weekend, N0D, Ham Fest and Field Day just, to name a few. Please come visit Mustang Island and see what Amateur Radio is all about.

We will operate with three stations simultaneously to maximize the contacts we can make during this event. Mustang Island, being a real island has an IOTA number and is also in a fairly difficult grid square to contact. Contacing us will allow you to possibly claim a new new IOTA island and perhaps even a new grid.

This event is sponsered by Northwest Amateur Radio Society (NARS) and additional information about the event can be found here.

Location

where are we?

We are located on Mustang Island State Park just adjacent to Corpus Chrsiti, TX.The park is located just offshore the city and has great amenities. We will be operating in the RV parking section of the park.

The entrance fee for the park is $5 / person and is valid all day long. Please see the map below to get driving directions. More information on Mustang Island State Park can be found here.

Our Plan

how will this work?

We plan to work on all the bands, propagation permitting, that are available to us during the event. We will be using low power (100w or less) and operating multi-operator for both days.

We plan to announce our bands, modes and frequencies using our Twitter feed. Everytime we change the mode, take a break or change the frequencies we will tweet about the change.

We will also post frequent pictures and, at intervals, upload videos of our operation. Follow us on Twitter to see how we are doing before and after the event.

Please QSL Via K5HM: Direct - US Stations SASE. Non-US 2 Green stamps or 1 IRC plus SAE. LOTW: Logs will be uploaded to LOTW after the event.
